This dashboard is intended to inform on the current status of the world’s ecosystems in terms of the progress of the application of the Red List of Ecosystems Categories and Criteria (RLE standard), seeking to catalyze the adoption of the RLE at local, regional and global level.

CUMULATIVE NUMBER OF ECOSYSTEM UNITS ASSESSED
Since 2014, the RLE has been adopted as a standardized framework to carry out objective, transparent and replicable assessments of the risk of ecosystem collapse.
PERCENT OF ECOSYSTEM UNITS ASSESSED UNDER EACH RISK CATEGORY
Overall risk status of the ecosystem units assessed with the RLE protocol.
Filter by CORE REALM
The graphs above are based on a subset of the total number of ecosystem units assessed to date, due to missing information or lag in data consolidation. For the pie chart, the categories Critically Endangered, Endangered and Vulnerable indicate threatened ecosystem units and are defined by quantitative and qualitative criteria. These are complemented by several qualitative categories that accommodate ecosystem units that: (i) almost meet the quantitative criteria for Vulnerable (Near Threatened); (ii) unambiguously meet none of the quantitative criteria (Least Concern); (iii) for which too few data exist to apply any criterion (Data Deficient) and (iv) those that have not yet been assessed (Not Evaluated).

The data summarized across this dashboard only considers ecosystem assessments based on the RLE Categories and Criteria adopted by IUCN in 2014 (v. 2.0 and later). Some of them consider minor modifications to the methodology. More details available at (RLE Database). Assessments based on earlier versions of the Categories and Criteria are excluded.
