The Red List of Ecosystems, towards a typology of global references. London, April 2017

The King’s College of London on behalf of the PLuS Alliance will host the workshop Global Red Listing of Ecosystems on April 24th – 26th, 2017. The initiative stems from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, sponsored by the PLuS Alliance organization.

IUCN Red List of Ecosystems - planning workshop in Melbourne

In November 2015, the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems (RLE) team gathered in Melbourne, Australia, along with a global team of experts in ecosystem conservation, biodiversity policy and conservation action. The meeting was hosted by Deakin University, and was co-funded by Deakin, the IUCN, MAVA Foundation, and the State Government of Victoria. The objective of the meeting was to build a strategic plan for rolling out the IUCN RLE globally, to ensure adequate support and capacity for robust risk assessment and high quality outcomes. 

I International Course "Red List of Ecosystems: Instrument for the Planning of Biodiversity Conservation Systems"

Between April 6th and 11th, in the facilities of CATIE, in Costa Rica, the I International Course of the Red List of Ecosystems was developed. In such course, 22 professionals of different sectors working on the biodiversity conservation participated. Its objective was to strengthen the capacities of the participants regarding the risk assessment of ecosystems and the application of the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems, in such a way that their result contribute with the development of planning and handling procedures of the national systems of biodiversity conservation in Latin America. There were professionals from: Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, Honduras, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, and Guatemala. The event was financially and technically supported by IUCN and PROVITA, which also awarded grants for some of the attendants.

National Red Lists of Species and Ecosystems Training Session at the Capacity Building for Conservation Congress

Integration of red lists of species and ecosystems is one of the goals of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for 2013-2016. In this sense, during the Capacity Building for Conservation Congress will take place a workshop simultaneously focused in strengthening the capacity of assessors to carry out species and ecosystem red lists.
